It’s Hobbit Prerelease day, and Middle-earth is already reshaping the secondary market before most players have even cracked a pack.

Magic: The Gathering

The Hobbit set is officially in prerelease, and that means new Middle-earth commanders are landing in players’ hands this weekend. If you’ve been eyeing a themed brew, there are seven different Bilbo Baggins builds to choose from, ranging across playstyles — a full breakdown of every Bilbo commander walks through how to build each one.

The bigger market story right now is Mystery Booster: Commander Edition. New commanders are dragging old cards up with them as brewers hunt for pieces, and that’s what’s driving this week’s movement. Check the weekly price spikes for 8/1–8/7 before you buy in — some of these jumps are steep.

One for the Vintage crowd too: Joe Dyer digs into what The Hobbit brings to the format’s oldest and most powerful battleground in Vintage 101: My Precious!. Between the new set and the shifting prices, it’s a busy day to be a Magic player.

Grab your prerelease seat and may your bombs come out early.
