The first batch of Hobbit spoilers has landed, and the story’s Big Bad is already the talk of the Commander table.
Magic: The Gathering
Smaug, the Magnificent is one of the first commanders revealed from the upcoming Hobbit set, and he’s taken off well ahead of release. Draftsim put together a full deck guide for building around the dragon, so if you want a head start before the cards are legal, check out the Smaug the Magnificent deck guide.
Looking further out, we’re expecting six Magic sets in 2027 — three Universes Beyond and three in-universe. Nothing’s confirmed yet, but Draftsim ran through the reasonable expectations for the year in their 2027 set predictions. Worth a read if you like planning your buys a year ahead.
On the Universes Beyond note, common legendary creatures used to be an afterthought — but that’s changing fast, and it opens up some genuinely cheap-to-build commander options. Draftsim ranked the best common legends and commanders if you want budget-friendly ideas.
Grind it out, or blow it up in one big turn.
